We are thrilled to announce that beginning on Monday, November 29th, an approximate 4-month project to renovate the bunkers at Brackenridge Park Golf Course will begin. We will be utilizing the Better Billy Bunker method which allows for quick drainage after rain events that will add to the overall longevity of the bunkers. If you have played our recently renovated Olmos Basin Golf Course, all the bunkers there were designed using this construction technique.
Additionally, many of the bunker’s sizes and shapes will be modified for enhanced playability while continuing to maintain the original design integrity of A.W. Tillinghast’s 1916 masterpiece. These changes will provide an excellent golf experience for players of all abilities while also allowing for quicker and more regular preparation of the bunkers from the agronomy team.
The construction crews will be working Monday-Friday, with no work occurring on weekends and holidays. Our expectation is that there will be no more than one hole closed at a time. However, during the construction phase of the project, we will have several bunkers at any one time that will be considered ground under repair, allowing for a free drop outside of the marked areas.
We understand that playing 17 holes and having multiple bunkers that are ground under repair is not ideal; however, we appreciate your patience in advance. As many regular golfers are aware, bunker conditions at Brackenridge Park are in desperate need of this renovation. We are excited about this project as we continue to strive to make the Alamo City Golf Trail facilities the best municipal golf courses in the nation.
